[Comment] Reducing the risk of sudden death during epilepsy monitoring
The Lancet Neurology
Premature mortality is a major part of the burden that epilepsy imposes on the individual. In people with chronic epilepsy, sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP) is the major culprit for this mortality. SUDEP is a baffling condition and to date little is known about its physiopathology and risk factors. Knowledge about these risk factors is essential if preventive strategies are to be deployed. A major reason for this lack of knowledge is that SUDEP almost invariably is an unwitnessed event.
